Pat Robinow is a Yellow Springs painter. She received her BFA from the Dayton Art Institute with additional study at Wright State University. She has participated in shows in several local venues including Rosewood Gallery, Sam & Eddie’s, Glen Helen, Wright State and the Dayton Art Institute.

Artist’s Statement
My painting is taken from my immediate environment and is based on observation, mainly in my yard and neighborhood. As I revisit a place over and over it opens up my understanding in different ways. These new paintings were made however using both observation and memory. I have been surprised by how much I remember after leaving the site. This process of recall helps me recover my original feelings about the scene. Many of these paintings are from a month I spent in southern Arizona in January 2013. The landscape was so different from Ohio that it seemed like another planet. The Arizona paintings represent my struggle to organize and capture this new environment. Some were drawn or painted on site, others are from thumbnail sketches and color notations made on site and painted in my studio.

Born in 1900 in Germany, Friedrich Friz was sent to a forced labor camp by the Third Reich, which did not approve of his kind of “degenerate” painting.
